The HighMark Charter School website (hereafter the website) and the HighMark Charter School mobile apps (hereafter the apps) are the property of Highmark Charter School (HMCS) and were developed by Eminent Technical Solutions LLC (ETS). Both HMCS and ETS take your privacy very seriously and have ensured that the website and the apps protect that privacy and observe the guidance of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA).
The website and the apps collect information from you in four scenarios: (1) the contact form, (2) the excuse absence form, (3) blog subscriptions, and (4) installation of either of the apps. Each of these scenarios are treated in more detail herein.
The Contact Form
Use of the contact form is voluntary. Whether you use the contact form from your favorite browser, or from one of the apps, you are using the contact form on the website. The contact form collects three data fields intended to be your name, your email address, and a message from you to the school. The information you submit in these fields is delivered, via email to a HighMark Charter School email address. The information passes through, but is not stored on the website server.
The Excuse Absence Form
Use of the excuse absence form is voluntary. Whether you use the excuse absence form from your favorite browser, or from one of the apps, you are using the excuse absence form on the website. The contact form collects eight data fields intended to be a parent’s name, the same parent’s email address, the same parent’s phone number, the date on which the parent’s student missed school, the student’s teacher, the student’s grade, and a reason for the absence. The information you submit in these fields is delivered, via email to a HighMark Charter School email address. The information passes through, but is not stored on the website server.
The website features several “blogs.” For example, the School News page (https://hmcharterschool.org/school_news) and teacher blogs linked to from the Faculty & Staff page (https://hmcharterschool.org/our-team). Each of these blogs features a subscription form to which you can submit your email address to received notification when something new is posted to the blog. Email addresses submitted in this fashion are stored on the website server and are used, automatically for the intended purpose. HMCS and ETS have access to the stored email addresses. HMCS reserves the right to use the stored email addresses to deliver school-related information to parents and students by means other than automatic delivery of information via the website. ETS only accesses the stored email addresses for the purposes of supporting the website operation and/or HMCS’ specific needs.
The primary purpose of the apps is to enable push notifications for school-related information. When you install either app on your device, the app will deliver a unique identifier to the website and that unique identifier is stored on the website. The unique identifier, which is generated by software provided either by Apple or Google, identifies the app itself and your device, but the unique identifier does not include any personal information and cannot be tracked back to any personal information. The stored unique identifiers are used by the website, exclusively, to send push notifications to the corresponding devices.
Other Security Measures
The entire website has been secured with HTTPS. HTTPS encrypts all communication between your browser, or the apps, and the website server. HTTPS also allows your browser to verify that it is communicating with the actual HighMark Charter School website, as opposed to some other entity on the Internet that is impersonating the website.
